ABC Launches Female Led Superhero Miniseries – Enter Agent Peggy Carter

The two hour premiere of Marvel’s Agent Carter which will replace Agents of Shield for the next eight weeks received welcoming reviews throughout social media. Agent Carter could arguably be Marvel’s best attempt at creating a superhero series. Agents of Shield has been lagging in ratings and has received mixed reviews. The 8 week miniseries seems to breathe new life into Marvel’s spy/detective series.agent-carter-abc

The show is a snazzy and retro show about a young agent trying working toward a greater good for her fellow mankind. The only problem is that it is 1946, a post war world that is steadily being introduced to scarier villains and weapons and the type of world that believes a woman’s place is “barefoot, pregnant and in the kitchen.” Widely known by her colleagues as Captain America’s flame her colleagues see her as nothing more than a secretary, someone to make their coffee and do their filing. But to Howard Stark she is an amazingly smart woman who knows how to get the job done. After Stark is accused of treason he hires Peggy to clear his name with the help of his butler, Jarvis.

Peggy hides her identity from her very few friends and roommate leading them to believe that she works at the phone company. But as Stark complicates her life she is now forced to wear a third hat, hiding her identity from her colleagues at the SSR (Strategic Scientific Reserve). While the SSR investigates Howard Stark, she works tirelessly to clear his name.

All in all amid explosions, witty banter, amusing fight sequences – like filling a man’s face with staples- and costume changes the show did not disappoint. Hayley Atwell portrayed Agent Carter flawlessly. The show also starred James D’Arcy as Edwin Jarvis (Stark’s entrusted butler), Jack Michael Murray as Agent Jack Thompson (rock star agent) and Enver Gjokaj as Agent Daniel Sousa (an injured war vet).

If you love spy plots, double agents, explosions and witty banter this show is a must watch. But don’t wait too late to get into the show as it will only last for 8 weeks, one down seven to go.
