The Nutcracker is a famous classic ballet that has been made into many feature films and cartoon films. The story was originally based on the ‘Nutcracker and the King of Mice’ which was written by E.T.A Hoffman. The film is based in the 1850s in Victorian England. The story begins with a festive Christmas Eve party taking place at the Stahlbaum’s house, which had the biggest Christmas tree possible. Clara and Fritz are the Stahlbaum children. Clara is shown as a sweet and kind girl while her brother Fritz is shown as a mischievous boy. Their Uncle Drosselmeyer brings gifts for all the children in the house every year. When Uncle Drosselmeyer gives all the girls and boys their gifts, Clara gets disappointed to see that there was no gift for her, until her Uncle gives her a wooden Nutcracker that is carved in the shape of a little man that cracks nuts. Nobody else liked her gift, but Clara loved it. Her brother being the rascally child that he is, find her Nutcracker toy and breaks it, leaving Clara upset and in tears.
Description of Roles
The company, Lucy Bevan Casting adaption is now casting a specific role for the main character of this film. The shoots will take place in the fall of 2016 in San Francisco. All actors will be paid professionally according to their role. The company is only casting people who are currently residing in San Francisco only. If you are not living in San Francisco, please do not apply.
Clara: This is the lead role for the entire film. A female actress is needed between the ages of 13-17 years of age. The actress will have to be able to perform as a clever, creative and independent young girl. Her character will portray a girl who goes against the female societal conventions of their time. She will have to be able to play a role where at the beginning of the play Clara will lack in confidence, struggle to cope with the death of her mother and is trying to become an adult and find her way in the adult world. Her character will show no interest in girly things such as fashion and beauty like most girls her age. Clara likes to be herself by inventing contraptions and going on exciting and new adventures and believing and using her imagination. As her character grows throughout the film, the actress must be able to portray her as strong, independent, inquisitive, clever, innovative and confident with herself.
