An HBO film, Fences is a story about a former baseball player. As a result of his African American origin, the baseball player is denied a chance in the Major leagues. This forces him to work as a trash collector to make ends meet. The story is set in the 1950s in Pittsburgh. The film has been adapted from a play of the same name by August Wilson. The play was first adapted for film in 1987 in which James Earl played the lead role. In 2010, the play was revived at the Cort Theatre.
The show ran for thirteen weeks and features the likes of Denzel Washington and Viola Davis. Both the actors won a Tony for the play in 2010. The HBO film adaptation will also feature both these actors in lead roles. The original Fences play, the 1987 film adaption, and the revival play have all tasted success and there is no reason that the HBO film adaptation won’t do the same.
