Here is the Question: How do you start modeling at 14 in Montreal?
I don’t know anything about the modeling business. I am confident about my body and I think it just might be perfect for modeling. I am 14 years old. I want to start modeling but I don’t know any agencies or anything. I live in Montreal and I want to become an amazing model one day! Can anyone really help?

being confident about your body is great, but does not make you a model. the AGENCY has to love your body, and for that to happen, you must be at least 5′8″ (yes even at 14; most girls are at their maximum height by your age), wear a sample size (size 2 or sometimes size 4), and fit a very specific measurement range (within an inch or so of 33-24-34), and have an amazing, unique, symmetrical face that has all the “hot” features the industry likes at the moment. models have to be tall, thin and unique to get signed, but keep in mind millions of girls would die to be models and tens of thousands of them are tall, thin and gorgeous- you have to beat all of them out with your look, which is next to impossible. they only go by looks in modeling, and they have a very static mold of what they want in a model (and this is ALL agencies). to submit to an agency, you must either send your portfolio/comp card/ snapshots (keep in mind you must follow their rules to the t if youre just sending in snapshots, and if you dont have experience modeling professionally, its unlikely youll get snapped up by a really goo agency) through the mail, with your height (theyll toss any submission that doesnt meet the height requirement), dress size, measurements (bust-waist-hips) and shoe size. you also must have very long legs in order to model- an inseam of at least 34 inches is pretty much required. its extremely competitive and expect to hear “no” and experience a lot of rejection, even if youre 5′11″, a size 2 and have a perfectly symmetrical, gorgeous face. modeling is basically reserved for an elite group of women and men who are lucky enough to fit the extremely narrow mold of what a model is. be advised, stuff you see on tv does not represent the real industry at all- especially shows like americas next top model (the short cycle, for instance, was a ridiculous gimmick and is so far from how the real industry works, its unbelievable) that cast girls mainly on personality; the modeling industry really doesnt care if you have a personality of any kind- if you have EXACTLY what theyre looking for physically, thats what will get you signed. if you do make it into the business, dont expect to make a ton of money, live a glamorous life, or get booked for super high fashion, interesting, cool, fun photo shoots and runway shows like you may see on tv, because its simply not the case. ive built a pretty decent career as a model, and i work more often than many, but i still am not well-off by any stretch, i am not at all well-known, nor do i ever expect to be, and i absolutely hate sitting on set for 6-12 hours per shoot and being told to “lose a few pounds” constantly even after i DO lose a few pounds. in all honesty, its not a fun job, and i cant wait to start my real career, and i felt the same way you did before i started- i REALLY wanted to model and be able to make art in that aspect, but its just not as fun as you think it may be. im sorry to burst your bubble, but on the plus side, you will feel better if you DONT make it, knowing that its not all its cracked up to be. its 99% boring, 1% semi-fun.
